scicli

Scicli is a small town next to Modica famous for its baroque architecture, especially for the beautiful noble palaces. The city develops inside two canyon, and for this reason was inhabited since the prehistoric times and through the Greek, Roman, Arab and following domination periods.

After the 1693 earthquake the city was destroyed and most of the citizens died. The city was then rebuilt following the late baroque style. Particularly beautiful is the Palazzo Beneventano, considered by some critics as the most beautiful baroque palace in Sicily. A high concentration of palaces is in Via Mormino Penna, where the city hall is located. The city is also closely connected to the sea.
