Top 6 pizzerias in Milan

When it comes to Italian food, it's hard not to mention pizza. During our stay in Milan we certainly did not miss anything interesting happening around the pizza scene, either it was the opening of a new branch of an old pizzeria from Neaple or the rise of a modern and young pizzeria focused on gourmet pizza, that is the research of the best ingredients and cooking methods.

Here are 6 pizzerias to recommend:

1 - La Taverna Gourmet

The best pizza in Milan for us must be La Taverna Gourmet, which makes fine pizzas into fine dishes. When we went there in February, the restaurant offered tasting menu (we of course chose the seafood menu). The various ingredients in topping are also painstakingly processed. In addition to the direct sashimi, there are also marinated, low-temperature, sauteed... There are lots of highlights, including the Mazara del Vallo red shrimp, which is so sweet! Pizza makers not only put a lot of thought into topping ingredients, but also the topping ingredients are matched with dough flavors, including purple rice, cuttlefish, and seeds. The point is that the overall taste is delicious, not just a creative gimmick that looks good. Six different flavors of seafood pizza, including an oyster and dessert, are priced at €45 per person (starting with two).

For the second brush, order a non-seafood pizza:

First pizza: Roast Beef with artichoke - The artichoke is very thin and looks like prosciutto. It is very tender, but the artichoke is so strong that after tasting a little bit of beef, the taste of artichoke takes over your mouth.

Second pizza: Profumo di Margherita - Even a Margherita Pizza can be "served" very elegantly, half red tomato sauce with buffalo milk mozzarella and basil, half yellow tomato sauce with smoked buffalo milk mozzarella and black basil. Tomato sauce is relatively thick, red acid, yellow sweet. Smoked buffalo milk mozzarella is special.

The shop also has a small number of craft beer options, we ordered BIBOCK beer, a large bottle, two people share a whole meal without problems, taste smooth, the overall relatively fragrant, a girl will also like the style.

There are several dessert options for a single order, all from Martesana, one of Milan's most famous cake shops, with a selection of tiramisu and cheesecake, which is generally ok.

Pizza prices here are really not cheap even for Milan standard, €15 for martgherita, €25 for meat and €35 for seafood, but the overall value is very high considering the variety of the flour, the selection of high-quality ingredients and the dining environment of fine restaurant.

2 - Berberè

Berberè is also a specialty pizzeria, with a seasonal menu.

Berberè's pizzeria is a success, with two stores in Milan and one each in Rome, Florence and Bologna. Of the 6 pizzerias recommended here, this is the one with the best interiors, the relaxed and lively atmosphere and the friendly and interesting waiters add a lot to the dining experience.

JSL_3029.jpg

First pizza: Mora Romagnola - Topping ingredients include sausage, tomatoes, Parmesan cheese and fennel seeds. Sausage and fennel seeds are a classic pairing.

JSL_8567.jpg

Second pizza: Pumpkin pizza for winter - Sauteed mushrooms, taleggio and mozzarella. Unexpectedly delicious, really has the feeling of winter.

JSL_3021.jpg

"topped with the finest salumi after baking" on the menu, where high-quality ham is never baked but instead is simply piled on top of the pizza that's already baked.

Third pizza: Prosciutto cotto di Mora Romagnola - Cooked ham with Stracciatella, fior di latte and orange olive oil.

Berberè’s dough is really good, it doesn't have a heavy taste, because the flour is chosen well, so the dough itself has a high aroma and better taste.

The dessert in the shop is also very recommended, and there is always a vacancy in the stomach is left for dessert. The dessert menu also changes according to the season.

First dessert: Citrus lingling couscous sorbet - This bean really has a rich aroma and is delicious and refreshing with sweet citrus.

Second dessert: Chocolate cake with very strong apricot jam.

The store also has a small selection of drinks:
Beer: Latte PIU - A niche beer that's a bit like natural wine in its opaque, fruity flavor.
Coke: A fair trade brand of coke from Austria - tastes different from Coca-Cola, but has a stronger vanilla flavor.

The price is very affordable, pizza + dessert, €15/ person without drinks.

3 - Marghe

MARGHE the pizza shop doesn't accept appointment. At about 8 PM is full and there is a queue outside.

We have long been a loyal fan of the basic Margherita Pizza because of the simplicity and the quality of the ingredients.

In addition to the menu items, there are also special items on the wall.
Pepperoni and cheese - The dough, especially on the side, is very nice and topping adds a nice flavor.

For dessert, tiramisu is recommended. It's made with buffalo milk,, Ricotta cheese and thick "cream"

Another variation of the Sicilian sweet roll cannolo. The crisp edge of the roll is still crispy, but the Ricotta cheese inside, doesn't taste right.

Prices are also on the menu, €7 for margarita, €12 for special, €4-5 for dessert.

4 - Lievità Ravizza

lievita 1.jpg

This restaurant has participated to the popular Italian show “4 Ristoranti” (4 restaurants) hosted by the famous chef Alessandro Borghese, where 4 restaurants within a certain category (in this case pizzerias) compete for to be the best. Unfortunately, those pizzerias that competed with Lievitàà, were not in the same league.

First pizza: Mazara del Vallo red prawns with artichokes: topping ingredients are enhanced by the Mazara del Vallo red prawns, which are very tender and the sweetness of the red prawns themselves is a real love.

lievita 2.jpg

In addition to the pizzas on the store's menu, there are also daily specials.

Second pizza: turnip leaf cima di rapa with sausage: the sausage is really tasty and has an attractive aroma.

The oven in the shop is said to be as hot as 400 degrees Celsius, so the pizza comes out about 30 seconds after it goes in, leaving ingredients like the sausage or the red prawns very tender The whole dough is on the line, but a little worse than Marghe.

Suggest making an appointment in the evening and on the weekend. There are actually two stores in Milan, and this one is more popular and highly rated.

Pizzas are in the €10-18/ range, with prices linked to topping ingredients.

5 - Pizzeria Starita

JSL_2741.jpg

Deep Fried pizza? Deep Fried and baked pizza?
Starita is a well-known local pizzeria in Naples, with branches in Milan, Turin and New York.

JSL_2729.jpg

Appetizer: Angioletti - fried dough with tomatoes and arugula. The Fried dough is also very tasty, and the tomatoes and arugula are also very tasty in the sauce.

JSL_2733.jpg

Appetizer: Genovesi - fried dough with sweet-and-sour onions and sweet-and-sour onion powder, sold by the piece, not too small.

Appetizer: crocche - mashed potatoes, also a huge one, very fragrant and glutinous.

The three above are light pizza-ready snacks, but the portions are not small at all, so order to your liking. If you're going to order fried pizza later, you don't need fried dough or anything like that.

JSL_2744.jpg

First pizza: Pizza Fritta - Pizza is wrapped, the crust is fried, and the crust tastes like the fried dough in a snack. When cut open, it contains goat's milk whey cheese, smoked cheese provola, fried fat ciccioli and tomato sauce.

JSL_2738.jpg

Second pizza: Montanara Starita - Fried and baked pizza with tomato sauce, smoked cheese provola and sheep cheese, and basil to add flavor. The cheese is still liquid and the dough is really thick.

The price is really affordable, so many snacks +2 pizzas are enough for 3 people, a total of €33? !

6 - Gino Sorbillo

JSL_2226.jpg

Gino Sorbillo, like Starita, has roots in Naples, but has also opened stores in Milan and New York. This pizza is really big, a whole circle bigger than a big plate, and all the ingredients come from Neapolitan suppliers. In addition, as a regular Naples pizzeria, the quality is more than adequate compared to the average pizzeria.

JSL_2200.jpg
JSL_2197.jpg

First pizza: Pizza Gialla Massimo Bottura - it's said that when Massimo Bottura came in and ordered this, the store named it after the god of Italian cuisine.
Second pizza: Pizza dell'alleanza Presidi Slow Food - it's a classic margarita pizza with sausage on top. All ingredients come from certified producers.

Both the toppings and the topping are perfectly balanced.

JSL_2205.jpg

The dessert, of course, is the Neapolitan Baba, big enough to eat for two.
The price of pizza + dessert is about €17 per person.
